Supreme Court makes appointments to Board of Bar Admissions November 5, 2018 The Mississippi Supreme Court has appointed a new member to the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions and reappointed two members. Attorney J. William Manuel of Jackson is a new member of the Board. Attorneys Walter Alan Davis of Oxford and Michael C. McCabe Jr. of Gulfport have been reappointed.  Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. appointed Manuel to replace Jeffery A. Styres in the First District, which includes central and Delta counties. Styres, who served on the board for nine years, was chairman for three years. Manuel is a partner in the Jackson office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. As a member of the firms’s Litigation Practice Group, he defends commercial and employment litigation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mississippi State University and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Justice Josiah D. Coleman reappointed Davis from the Supreme Court’s Third District, which covers north Mississippi. Davis is a partner in the firm of Dunbar Davis, PLLC, in Oxford. Justice David Ishee reappointed McCabe from the court’s Second District, which covers the southern part of the state. McCabe is a member of the Butler Snow firm in Gulfport. Their terms began Nov. 1 and extend through October 2021. Board members are appointed by the Supreme Court to staggered three-year terms. Each member of the Supreme Court has an appointment on the Board. The Board of Bar Admissions administers the rules and statutes governing admission to the practice of law in Mississippi. The Board oversees the preparation, administration and evaluation of two bar examinations each year. The Board also, in conjunction with its Committee on Character and Fitness, oversees the investigation and evaluation of the character and fitness of each person who applies to become a member of the Mississippi Bar. #### |
